Can You Get a Keratin Treatment With Coloured Hair?

Yes, and for most clients with coloured hair it works well. Cezanne keratin smoothing treatment is formaldehyde-free and generally gentler than traditional keratin treatments, which makes it a reasonable option even for chemically processed hair. That said, the condition of the hair matters and there are a few things worth knowing before you book.

Coloured Hair and Cezanne

Standard single-process colour, toning, and balayage are all compatible with Cezanne treatment. The main thing to watch is timing. Do not book the treatment within two weeks of a fresh colour application. Newly coloured hair has an open cuticle that needs time to settle, and applying a smoothing treatment too soon can cause the colour to shift slightly and puts more stress on hair that is already in a transitional state.

If you colour your hair regularly, the ideal sequence is colour first, then Cezanne at least two weeks later. After the treatment, wait another two weeks before your next colour appointment. This gives both processes time to fully set without interfering with each other.

Bleached and Highlighted Hair

Heavily bleached hair and Cezanne can work together, but the condition of the hair is the deciding factor. Bleach compromises the structural integrity of the hair shaft, and a keratin smoothing treatment works by bonding to that same shaft. If the hair is significantly damaged or over-processed, the treatment may not take evenly or may not last as long as it would on healthier hair.

A stylist should assess the hair in person before booking a keratin treatment on heavily bleached hair. We do this at the start of the appointment, and if there is a concern we will tell you before starting rather than proceeding and having you be disappointed with the result.

Will It Affect My Colour?

In most cases, no. Cezanne does not lift colour and it does not deposit pigment. On very light, freshly toned hair there can occasionally be a very slight shift in tone, which is why the two-week gap between colour and treatment matters. On settled colour, the treatment typically has no visible effect on shade.

Some clients actually find that Cezanne improves how their colour looks. Smoother, sealed cuticles reflect light more evenly, which can make colour appear more vibrant and consistent. It is not a guaranteed outcome but it is a common one.
