The first 72 hours after your Cezanne treatment are the most important. What you do, or avoid doing, in that window has a direct impact on how long the results last and how evenly the treatment sets. Here is what to stay away from.
Do Not Tie Your Hair Up
No ponytails, buns, clips, or bobby pins for the first 72 hours. Anything that bends or creases the hair while the treatment is still setting can leave a permanent mark. Keep your hair down and loose. If you sleep, use a silk or satin pillowcase and let your hair fall naturally rather than tucking it.
This is the rule most clients find the hardest to follow, particularly if they have long hair or work somewhere where hair needs to be pulled back. If you know that is your situation, time the appointment for before a few days off if you can.
Do Not Wash Your Hair
Wait at least 72 hours before the first wash. Washing too early can disrupt the bonding process and cause the treatment to fade unevenly. When you do wash for the first time, use lukewarm water, not hot, and a sulfate-free and sodium-chloride-free shampoo. These two ingredients are the main culprits for stripping the treatment faster than it needs to go.
Avoid Sweat and Humidity
Skipping the gym for a few days is worthwhile. Sweat acts similarly to water and can interfere with the setting process in the first 72 hours. Heavy humidity, steam rooms, and saunas fall into the same category. Vancouver rain is not a disaster if you have an umbrella, but standing in a downpour is best avoided in the first few days.
Stay Away From the Ocean and Pool
Salt water and chlorine are hard on Cezanne treatment even after it has fully set. In the first 72 hours they are especially damaging. If you swim regularly, make sure you rinse thoroughly straight after every swim once the treatment is set, and continue using a sulfate-free shampoo going forward.
What You Can Do
You can blow-dry, flat iron, and style your hair normally after the treatment. The process actually responds well to heat, and using a blow dryer in the days after is fine. Just keep the hair down and away from anything that would crease or bend it.
The aftercare becomes less strict after the first wash. From that point, the main rules are sulfate-free shampoo, not washing daily if you can manage it, and rinsing after swimming. Following those three things consistently is what separates three months of results from five.
